The first Workshop of Informatics and Geotechnology of Santarém (SIGES) will be held in Santarém (PA) from 17th to 21st, october 2011. SIGES involves multiple areas and brings together well known and very active institutions (at regional, national, and international levels). SIGES was born as the evolution of three previous events: Informatics week, Geotechnology week, and Open software school, which have been around since 2004.
SIGES venue is shared by the Federal Institutions from Santarém and this year Federal University of Western Pará - UFOPA will host the event, which has the following motto: "Information Technolgy and Geotechnology for sustainable development of the Amazon region”. SIGES believes that sustainable development will be catalysed trough the use of knowledge and technology to preserve nature. The event is organized in three main instruments namely practical courses of short duration, keynote speeches, and presentation of papers (both short and normal). The material produced will be published in a ISBN document. Moreover, SIGES is currently supported by the Brasilian Society of Computer Science (SBC), which has included SIGES as an official event of their annual agenda.
SIGES is organized and coordinated by UFOPA, involving the following institutions: IFPA, IBAMA, IESPES, INPA, LBA, CEULS/ULBRA, FIT, just to name a few. SIGES venue is UFOPA Campus Tapajós, Rua Vera Paz, s/n, Salé, Santarém (PA).
